Robert S. Hackett, ESQ

Robert S. Hackett, Esq., Partner, is a dedicated criminal defense attorney, with experience also in civil litigation and related matters, and has represented clients in both state and federal court.

Mr. Hackett was born and raised in the City of Detroit and attended the Detroit Public Schools. After graduation from high school, he attended Eastern Michigan University and the University of Tennessee, in Knoxville, before attending the University of Michigan, where he received a BA in History and a BA Political Science.

During his senior year at the University of Michigan, he interned in the state office of the American Civil Liberties Union, where he was sensitized to the power and potential abuses of government and was fortunate to have been under the tutelage of some of the sharpest legal minds in the state. After graduation from UM, he accepted a full-time position with the ACLU and thereafter attended law school after realizing the impact a legal education could make. Mr. Hackett graduated from the Thomas M. Cooley Law School in 1995 and was licensed to practice law that same year.

After 5 years in private civil and criminal practice, Mr. Hackett accepted a position as an attorney-investigator with the Office of the Federal Public Defender for the Western District of Michigan and served in that capacity until he was promoted to an Assistant Federal Public Defender position. After approximately 5 years at the FPD, where he represented individuals charged with criminal offenses in the federal system, Mr. Hackett went back into private practice to concentrate mainly in the area of criminal defense at the state level.

Throughout his legal career, Mr. Hackett has been dedicated to representing persons accused of, and charged with, committing criminal offenses and is accomplished in obtaining favorable outcomes for his clients.

When not playing lawyer, Mr. Hackett enjoys spending time with his two teenage children and playing golf.
